Why High Tea Feels So Modern to Me

There’s something quietly luxurious about taking time to pause. A few weeks ago, I spent an afternoon at The Botanic Sanctuary for high tea: three unhurried hours surrounded by calm, soft light, and the scent of freshly baked pastries.

What struck me most, though, was how modern the whole concept feels again. More and more, I notice younger people turning to experiences like this … slower, more intentional moments that offer a real sense of connection. High tea feels like the perfect antidote to our always-online culture: a couple of hours away from screens, surrounded

by beauty, flavour, and conversation. It’s elegant, but also deeply grounding and mindful.

The food was exquisite. A lobster bisque that felt both delicate and comforting, and a cloudy pavlova that was light and airy, with just the right touch of sweetness. Every pastry was created by Roger Van Damme, whose craftsmanship turned the experience into something truly exceptional… it’s just such a treat! Every detail from the porcelain teacups to the small floral touches was considered with care.

I left inspired to host more tea parties of my own: to gather friends, share pastries, pour tea, and create space to simply be. Because sometimes, the most beautiful moments are the ones that ask nothing of us but our presence and time… okay, and good food helps as well :)

With love,

Sofie
