The Siam – My Bangkok Hideaway

Bangkok is always buzzing:  tuk tuks, scooters, street food, people everywhere. And then there’s The Siam. Walking through those gates felt like stepping into another ( more quiet) world. You’re surrounded by lush tropical greenery, winding garden paths and the river flowing gently beside the hotel. I felt myself slow down almost instantly after a busy day on the city.

My room was enormous, with high ceilings, beautiful dark wood and the kind of bed you never want to leave. Even the bathroom felt like a little sanctuary. Every evening, coming back after a day in the city, closing the door behind me and sinking into that calm became something I looked forward to.

Breakfast quickly turned into my favourite ritual. I'd wander through the gardens, passing those enormous banana leaves that somehow made everything feel even more peaceful, before finding a table by the river. Fresh coconut water, tropical fruit, little Thai dishes I couldn't stop ordering… while longtail boats drifted past. It was the perfect balance. You could still feel the energy of Bangkok, but from a distance.

One of my favourite things about staying at The Siam was that you could explore the city by boat. Water has always had a calming effect on me, and arriving in the middle of Bangkok via the Chao Phraya felt completely different from sitting in traffic. I'd watch temples, old buildings and everyday life pass by from the water before stepping into the busy streets. At the end of the day, taking the boat back to the hotel almost felt like coming home. I still remember those late afternoons, when the sky turned soft pink and the lights along the river slowly came on.

Looking back, I think that's what I loved most about The Siam. It gave me the best of both worlds. I could spend the day wandering through one of the busiest cities in the world and return to a place that felt quiet, green and completely removed from it all.

A year later, it's still one of the hotels I think about most.
