Studying Sound Healing in Brussels

Over the past few years, I had experienced several sound healings in places like Ibiza and the Cotswolds. Every single time, I walked out feeling different somehow. Calmer. Lighter. More grounded.

What fascinated me most was that it wasn’t only emotional. You could physically feel the effect of sound moving through the body in a way that’s difficult to fully explain until you experience it yourself. That curiosity stayed with me for years and eventually led me to spend a weekend in Brussels studying sound healing more deeply.

The training took place at Aki Sound Studio, a beautiful space that immediately felt calming the moment I walked in. Soft light, sound bowls everywhere, people arriving quietly, a completely different atmosphere from the constant stimulation most of us move through every day. It already felt like stepping into another rhythm for a while.

What I appreciated most about the experience was that it wasn’t presented in an overly “woo woo” way. Of course there is a spiritual side to sound healing, but there was also a strong focus on the nervous system, frequency, vibration and the physical effect sound can have on the body. Understanding more about that made the entire experience even more fascinating to me.

We spent the weekend learning about different bowls, frequencies, techniques and the effect certain sounds can create emotionally and physically. Some moments felt deeply calming, others surprisingly emotional. There is something incredibly powerful about sound that you don’t only hear, but genuinely feel.

I also realised how rarely we allow ourselves to fully slow down anymore. Most of us move through life constantly consuming information, noise and stimulation. This weekend felt like the opposite of that. Not an escape from reality, but more a reminder of how important silence, presence and nervous system regulation actually are.

What started as pure curiosity ended up becoming one of the most inspiring experiences I’ve had in a long time. And honestly, I have a feeling this is only the beginning of exploring this world more deeply. With Love, Sofie
