Living by My Inner Compass

What I learned from my Human Design reading with Virginia van Dijk

Human Design is a modern system for self-understanding, a language that weaves science and spirituality. It combines astrology, the I Ching, the Kabbalah, and quantum physics to create an energetic blueprint that reveals how your energy flows and how you are meant to move through the world.

Your chart is created using your date, time, and place of birth. From that information, a unique map unfolds, showing your type, strategy, authority, and the energetic centers that shape your nature.

When Virginia van Dijk read my chart, it felt like remembering something I had always known. Almost a coming home to myself.

I discovered that I am a Generator with Sacral Authority, here to wait for what life brings and to respond from the deep intelligence of my body. For most of my life, I had been pushing forward, trying to make things happen, believing effort was the only way. Virginia explained that my true power lies in responding, in listening for the unmistakable yes or no that rises from my gut. As she spoke, something clicked. I could suddenly see the difference between the moments when I forced things and felt drained, and the moments when I followed that effortless inner yes. It was never about doing more. It was about trusting my own rhythm.

Virginia also showed me my 3/5 profile. The “3” learns through experience, through trying and falling and trying again. The “5” carries the wisdom that comes from that journey and shares it with others. Hearing this was a little bit healing for me... I stopped seeing my detours and mistakes as proof that I had failed. They were part of my path, part of the way I am meant to learn.

As we explored my centers, the map became even more alive. My defined sacral explained the deep energy that fuels me when I do what I love and the exhaustion that follows when I ignore that truth. My defined throat reflected my lifelong need to express, to speak, to create. My open centers revealed where I absorb from others and where I must remember to release what is not mine. It felt like she was describing my inner weather, the sunlight, the currents, the storms.

Since that day, I have begun to live differently. I pause before saying yes. I listen to my body before my mind. I allow life to come toward me and I notice how my energy responds. When I follow that spark, everything unfolds with more ease. When I ignore it, I feel heavy again. It is not always easy, but it feels true to me.

What has stayed with me most is the sense of peace that came from understanding my design. My chart didn’t tell me who to become or what to do. It reminded me that I am already whole. Virginia’s book Het Kompas offers that same feeling, a gentle invitation to turn inward, to trust your own timing, and to live guided by the quiet intelligence within.

In the end, Human Design is less about learning something new and more about remembering. When I live by my inner compass, life feels gentler. The right things come when I am ready to receive them. And all I have to do is respond with an open heart. It makes me wonder… have you ever felt curious to see what your own map might say? With Love, Sofie
